Christian Yoga Class Themes from A-Z

2020-01-03T22:04:41+00:00

There seems to be a shortage of Christ centered class theme offerings, so CYA wanted to help. CYA's Michelle Thielen has contributed a wonderful 70 page booklet, covering 26 class themes to draw any practitioner or trainer closer to God. These class themes could be used as one leads others through class, as a guide for one's personal practice or a resource for bible subjects to lead a bible study, a session at a retreat or provide insight for a speaking engagement. We know that if you are a Christian who loves yoga, this will bless you for many years to [...]

How Would Jesus Look Today?

2020-01-03T21:52:56+00:00

How Would Jesus Look? Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1 In your mind’s eye, how do you visualize the person of Christ? As an artist, how would you paint Him? Probably with a beard and a robe and sandals. We don’t know the Lord’s weight or height or facial features, but we do know something about the clothing styles of His day. But now, imagine Him in a business suit. Or—this isn’t disrespectful—in casual clothing. Can you imagine Him in jeans and an untucked shirt? In other words, if Jesus had come bodily to live in [...]

To Om or Not to Om

2025-01-01T18:59:53+00:00

Enjoy a portion of an extensive eBook. TO OM OR NOT TO OM by Michelle Thielen, Founder of YogaFaith In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1, KJV From the beginning, and when I say, “beginning,” I am referencing the very beginning. The first scriptures found in the Bible describe the beauty and power of spoken words. These creative and sacred words hovered over unoccupied atmospheres bringing life out of absolute nothingness. A holy sound, a holy utterance spoke into emptiness forming life, earth, day, night, creatures and man. These [...]

Celebrating Mothers On The Mat

2023-10-21T23:47:50+00:00

This is the weekend we celebrate Motherhood, a special role given by the grace of God.  Motherhood taps into all that we exercise in yoga - the mind, the body and the soul.  The more we yoke those elements to Christ in our daily lives, the richer the relationship between a mother and child.  Come to your practice with the intentions to nourish your mind, body and soul so that, as mother and/or child, you can love each through the power of God’s love. Opening Meditation Prayer:  Lord, on this special day set aside to honor Mothers, thank you for the [...]

Yoga Teachers And Invitational Language

2023-10-21T23:47:59+00:00

I had an experience in a yin yoga class recently that has me reflecting on the power I have as the teacher in a yoga class or the practitioner in a yoga therapy session. In this class, the well intended teacher, set us up for a wonderful hip opening session. She encouraged us to find our breath, even counting the inhalation and exhalation, and then she told us to settle in and find stillness. Notice I said told, not asked. This was a command. Be still. Her follow up language was something along the lines of “ I know you will [...]

When You Need To Be Still

2018-12-03T12:59:34+00:00

As I sit here staring at this blank computer screen, I haphazardly look over to my left. Our Christmas tree is standing there. Still. Warm. Inviting. It's hard to look away. My eyes just want to engage in the beauty of this tree. No ornaments are even hung yet. But, it doesn't matter. She is glowing with colorful lights. Inviting anyone to come and sit next to her warmth. [yes, I do believe our tree is a "she".] There is nothing really special about this tree. Average height, average breadth. Yet, it is hard to look away. She's just quite a breathtaking [...]

The Most Underrated Spiritual Discipline

2018-10-20T19:48:18+00:00

We all know that we’re supposed to pray. We all have our own prayer “tactics,” such as prayer lists, prayer apps, prayer walks, prayer meetings, praying out loud, writing down our prayers, writing down the prayers we say out loud, and saying out loud prayers which have been written down. In spite of all these tactics, I believe prayer is THE MOST underrated spiritual discipline. The simple fact is, I take prayer for granted. Because Christ has opened the way into the Holy Places, I can pray freely at any time of day. I can pray in the car, as I’m [...]

I need a mental break, before I break.

2018-10-18T13:08:59+00:00

Pause Breathe deeply.. He is taking us all somewhere - those of us who struggle with a mess in the mind.. So many names - depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenic, ptsd, disorders of all sorts. We can feel alone, like no one understands. We all face these battles uniquely, it hits us all in different ways. That is why it can be so hard to find those who fully relate. I mean, how can someone fully understand when we ourselves do not sometimes recognize what is going on in our own minds? But there is one, and He is the One. He [...]
